Abstract
Seventy five proved diabetes mellitus (DM) patients and 25 apparently healthy volunteers were chosen in Al-Kindy Hospital, from July – Nov., 2006.
All subjects were strictly fasted 12 hr. to perform fasting blood glucose (FBG); lipid profile (Total cholesterol , triglycerides , high density lipoprotein (DL), low DL& very low DL) and body mass index (BMI) in Kg/m2 (lean, normal, over weight and obese).
The data showed that no significant difference (P>0.05) between both gender in relation to DM.
The largest age group was (41-60)years with (P<0.01).Type 2 DM comprised the highest (86.7%) whilst type 1 comprised (13.3%), (P<0.01).
Both type 1 and 2 DM patients observed with elevated FBG in their sera but type 1 (231±39.4 mg/ dl) was higher than 2 (181.05±7.33 mg/dl), (P<0.05).
In accordance to BMI , the lean group showed the highest FBG among DM patients but had the least lipid profile.
