| Abstract | ||
| Animal products are of great importance because they contribute in providing the population with a part of their essential needs of food represented by meat ,milk ,and eggs in addition to being the input for various industries like dairies , leathers , and other industries . Hence ,they are an important income source. So , it is of vital importance to develop the livestock . Providing animal fodder is a primary step for developing this sector , and this depends on what is available of geographical possibilities for planting fodder crops . The Basrah , Maysan , and Thi Qar provinces have some geographical characteristics that make them important regions in planting different crops including fodder crops , if best exploited . The lack of natural browses makes it urgent to exploit these areas in plating cheap green fodder crops . In addition , the influence of saltiness in different degrees on vast agricultural areas and decrease of organic material in soil makes it an inevitable necessity to plant fodder crops in agricultural successions . Although fodder crops are very important and geographical possibilities for planting them are found ,the production of these crops remained less than required . The tendency is to use a large portion of the product in other fields rather than animal feeding such as the use of yellow corn in certain industries or the direct human consumption of barley . This affected the production of livestock in these three provinces reflected mainly in the number of animals , except for buffalos , in addition to the low production of each animal in comparison of international average . | ||
