Abstract
This study was conducted by using 450 chicks of ROSS strain poultry ,to find out the effect of using surgical removal of the uropygical gland on productive performance of broiler (Ross strain),individually ,for each sex on farm/college of Agriculture/University of Baghdad, for the period from 282/2004 to 24/4/2004. Chick were divided into five treatments, Iraqi Method was conducted on the first four treatments on different ages (28,21,14,7 days),while the fifth group was control. The average live weight at age of (8weeks) , the final weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion efficiency and total mortality percentage had been studied. by using these traits, the Production Index and Economic Figure were estimated. Then 12 birds were slaughtered from each treatment(6 male & 6 female) to estimate the weight of the carcass, dressing percentage, relative weight of the carcasses cut, eatable internal organs. The results have indicated a significant improvement in the average live weight, average accumulative weight gain, accumulative feed conversion efficiency, values of Production Index and Economic Figure, dressing percentage, breast relative weight, back relative weight, wings relative weight for the first fourth treatments in comparison with the control treatment. There were no significant differences among treatment as regards accumulative feed intake, relative weight of the eatable internal organs, thigh, neck. Treatment of surgical removal of the uropygical gland at the age of 7 days is superior to other removal treatments. Therefore, it is concluded from this study that the adapt of the Iraqi method at age of 7 days is the best age.
