Abstract
Data were collected from 336 chicks belonged to 24 sire and 131 dam. This study was conducted at the poultry farm of Animal Resources Department, College of Agriculture, Baghdad University, Abu-Ghraib, over a period from Jan.2005 to Sep.2005. The aim of this research is to study average pause length and number of pauses and their effect on egg mass in white Leghorn. The General Linear Model (GLM) within SAS program was used to study the effect of some fixed effect which included ( hatch and age at sexual maturity ) on average pause length and number of pauses beside studying the effect of hatch , weight at sexual maturity, average pause length and number of pauses on egg mass. The overall means for average pause length, number of pauses , egg mass were 2.27 days , 15.48 pause and 3495.02 gm. The effect of hatch was significant (P < 0.05) on average pause length and number of pauses, whereas the effect of weight at sexual maturity was not. Egg mass was effected significantly (P < 0.01) by average pause length and number of pauses, whereas the effect of hatch and weight at sexual maturity was not significant .
