Abstract
An experiment was conducted at the Poultry Farm , Animal Resources Dept., College of Agriculture University of Baghdad from 12 / 6 / 2004 to 8 / 8 / 2004 ,to study the effect of supplementing Chromium yeast (Cr+3-Yeast) to the diet on broiler performance and immune response of three broiler strain Lohmann, Rose and Hubbard . A total of 450 day - old chicks (150 / strain) were randomly distributed to three dietary treatments 0, 150 and 300 PPb Cr+3 / kg diet. Each treatment contain two replicate floor pens (25 birds / pen) from each strain. Result indicated that average body weights were (P<0.05) higher at 28 , 42 and 56 days of age for the three strains that were supplemented with 150 PPb Cr+3- yeast. Average gain was significantly (P<0.05) higher at 42 and 56 days of age for the three strains that were supplemented with 150 ppb Cr+3- yeast as compared with the control and 300 PPb groups . Rose strain at 56 days of age consumed significantly (P<0.05) less feed as compared with the same strain in the control group, While Lohmann strain that were supplemented with 300 PPb Cr+3- yeast had the lowest (P<0.05) feed consumption as compared with other strains in the control and 150 PPb Cr+3- yeast group. Feed gain at 56 days of age were significantly (P<0.05) better for Lohmann and Rose that were supplemented with 150 PPb Cr+3- yeast, as compared with other level of PPb Cr+3- yeast , lmmune response was significantly higher (P<0.05) at 28 and 56 days for the strains that were supplemented with 150 or 300 PPb Cr+3- yeast. Mortality rate was significantly (P<0.05) lower for the strains that were supplemented with 150 and 300 PPb Cr+3- yeast. It can be concluded from this study that supplementing 150 PPb Cr+3- yeast gave the best results for most parameter measured under Summer condition 34 - 36 °C .
