Abstract
A total of 175 hens and 20 cocks of Hybro – breeder chickens were divided into five experimental groups (35 hens and 4 cocks) with four replicates each and were randomly assigned into five treatments. The basal diet were supplied with 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 kg dried crushed garlic / ton for control, T1, T2, T3, and T4 groups, respectively. Results showed that all treated bird groups expressed no significant change in their hematological parameters, except monocyte, basophil and eosinophil they were decreased significantly (P<0.01). Within treatments males showed higher mean values than females for most parameters studied. Periods (ages) showed a highly significant (P<0.01) increase, in most hematological parameters except Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and eosinophil they decreased significantly, while Red Blood Cells (RBC)s count, Packed Cell Volume (PCV), lymphocyte and heterophil were not affected by age. All treatments caused significant (P<0.01) decrease in blood biochemical contents studied except Serum High Density Lipoprotein (SHDL) which was not affected, while Serum Total Protein (STP) changed significantly. The lowest biochemical values were recorded in birds of T2 group within treatments females exceeded males mean values in all traits except SHDL. Ages showed a highly significant (P<0.01) decrease in all blood biochemical contents, except SHDL and STP which increased significantly (P<0.01). Skeletal muscle biochemical contents were not affected by treatments while muscle types affected the content significantly (P<0.01). Within treatments females were superior to males in most traits for both breast and thigh muscles. It was concluded that dried garlic powder supplementation in the diet of broiler breeder chickens improved most physiological traits tested in this experiment.
