Abstract
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with different levels of black seed on some semen characters of cocks. A total of 48 Hy-Line brown breeder roosters were assigned to 4 treatments of 4 repiclates each. Each replicate comprises 3 cocks (12 cocks per treatment). Treatment groups were as follwos: Treatments 1,2 and 3: cocks were fed diet supplemented with 1,2 or 3 Kg/ton of diet, respectively, while treatment 4 was considered as control group. Semen traits included in this experiment were: semen volume, mass activity, individual moility, spermatozoa concentration and acrosomal abnormalities. Results revealed that the addition of black seed to the diet of roosters resulted in a significant (P<0.01) improvement normal spermatozoa and morphologically normal acrosomes. However, when black seed supplemented to the cocks ration there were numerical improvement in spite of non significant as regards semen volume, spermatozoa concertration and spermatocrit. However, in general T3 (3 kg / ton) recorded the best results regarding the traits included in this study as compared with other treatments. In conclusion, the addition of black seed to Hy-Line brown breeder males resulted in clear improvement with relation to some semen traits included in this experiment. Therefor, black seed could be used as one of tools for enhancing reproductive performance of roosters
