| Abstract | ||
| This experiment was conducted from 26/12/2008 to 27/2/2009 to determine the effect of supplementation roosters diluent semen with aqueous extract of Eruca sativa seeds infusion on semen quality during in vitro storage for up to 72 h. A total of 60 males (Hy line) 39 weeks old were divided randomly into 5 equal groups as follows: T1: semen diluted 1:1 with Lake diluent (LD) alone and T2-T5: semen samples diluted 1:1 with LD supplemented with 2, 4, 6 or 8 ml of aqueous extract of Eruca sativa seeds infusion/ 100 ml of diluent, respectively. Results indicated that the inclusion of aqueous extract of Eruca sativa seeds into LD diluent resulted in a significant increase (p< 0.01) in mass activity and individual motility and significant decrease (p< 0.01) in percentage of dead and abnormal spermatozoa when semen samples were evaluated directly after collection (oh) or after 24, 48 and 72 h. of in vitro storage in refrigerator. However, T3 group (4ml aqueous extract of Eruca sativa seeds/100 ml of diluent) recorded the highest values of mass activity and individual motility and lowest values of percentage of dead and abnormal spermatozoa as compared with other treatments of aqueous extract (T2, T4 and T5). | ||
