| Abstract | ||
| Objective of the study: The study aims at (1) assessing the level of depression in the first 48 hours after acute myocardial infarction (2) determining the relationship between depression and the outcome of myocardial infarction Method: The sample included 60 patients (34) females and (26) males with acute myocardial infarction consecutively admitted to the coronary care unit at Al-Yarmook hospital in Baghdad.The patients were examined clinically to assess the complications that may occur in the first 48 hours and assessing the level of depression expressed by those patients Results: The results of the study showed that in the first 48 hours of acute myocardial infarction as many as 42 out of 60 patients have been found to be clinically complicated . The results also showed that there was highly significant difference between complicated and non complicated MI regarding the level of depression Conclusion: It is clear that depression of inpatients in the first 48 hours after myocardial infarction represents a considerably increased risk of early complication, and therefore these patients should be closely monitored for longer than it is at present routine Key words: myocardial infarction; depression; complication of myocardial infarction | ||
