Abstract
This paper presents a treatment of the notion of collocation. It also deals with this notion as shown in corpora databases of language, which have been concordanced or selectively organized and indexed around a word. That is to say, we depend on the results and findings of such studies. These concordancers widen the scope of the notion of collocation in the sense that it is not necessary for two items to be adjacent together so as to collocate together. The two researchers prove this through their analysis of collocations of the lemma /nafs/ (self) in the Holy Quran. They have done so by making a survey of all the verses that contain the lemma /nafs/. The analyses and results arrived at are very useful for learners of both languages.
