Abstract
Abstract: The research was conducted to investigate the effect of Garlic and Punica granutum peels extract on mean body weights, weight gains, feed consumption and feed conversion rate in chickens experimentally infected with Eimeria tenella. Atotal of 320 (Rose 308) , one day old broiler chicks, were used in the research. chickens were randomly allocated on eight treatments, and each treatment was included 40 chicks, with two replicates of twenty chicks for each in any treatment. Chickens were drenched with the challenge dose of E. tenella Oocysts (50000 Oocyst/ chicks) in seven treatments, where as, one of the treatment was left with out infection, and it was regarded as a control treatment . chickens were fed a basal diet containing feed addatives represented by garlic and punica granutum peels extract, and treatments were arranged as follow: T1: it contained non infected chickens and ¬fed on a basal diet with out anticoccidial and it was considered as a control group. T2: it contained infected chickens and ¬fed on a basal diet containing punica granutum peels extract 2kg/ton feed as prevention, three days before infection and continued for seven successive days. T3: infected group ¬fed on diet containing punica granutum peels extract 2kg/ton feed with garlic extract 2kg/ton feed, 3 days before infection as prevention and it was continued for 7 days. T4: it contained non treated infected chickens and fed on a diet with out anticoccials. T5: infected group given punica granutum peels extract 0.7 gm/kg body weight via drinking water post infection. T6: infected group given punica granutum peels extract 0.7gm/kg with garlic extract 0.5 gm/kg body weight via drinking water 2 days post infection. T8: infected group given anticoccidial drug via drinking water 1 gm/2 liter for 5 days post infection. Chickens of all treatments were exposed to infection with E. tenella except that of the first treatment during the second day of the fourth week of age. Mean body weights of chickens, feed consumption and feed conversion rate were recorded weekly. Results indicated a high significant increase (p<0.01) of mean body weights of chickens in the second and third treatment, as well as the fifth treatment which were treated by punica granutum peels extract, in addition, it was noticed a high significant increase (p<0.01) of mean weight gains of chickens in the second and third treatment due to their diet which contained garlic and P. granutum peels extracts as prevention. Results also showed a high significant increase (p<0.01) of feed consumption and feed conversion rate of the third treatment as compared with other treatments. It was concluded that P. granutum and garlic extract played an important role in improving productive performance of broiler chickens infected with E. tenella.
