| Abstract | ||
| Auto-antibodies against the tumor suppressor gene (p53) have been detected in the sera of a proportion of patients with various cancers. The essential aim of this study was to detect serum p53-antibodies (p53-Abs) and to evaluate the prognostic value of these antibodies in patients with breast cancer. The current study covered 70 subjects. It comprised a total of 40 patients with primary breast cancer compared with 30 apparently healthy controls. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect serum p53-Abs. Antibody against p53 was detected in the sera of eight patients (20%), the mean serum levels of p53-Abs showed significant increase in patients (32.8±5.4pg/ml) when compared to control group (4.1±0.3pg/ml) P<0.001. Moreover the positive rate of serum p53-Abs was not related to each of age, stage and histologic grade of tumor. In conclusion, the findings indicate that serum p53-Abs may not act as prognostic factor in breast cancer. | ||
