The classical linguists had used phonology for the benefit of the grammatical study, and we reached such conclusion via our study of phonological factors that were used by
the ancient Arab linguists. Unfortunately, on one hand, they focused their entire attention
on the study of phonetics. On the other hand ,those grammarians who had come after AL-
khaleel,Sibaweih,Al-Furaa and Ibn - Jenni, contributed nothing of value in this field of study , because they were obsessed with what we call " The disease of sanctification of
the individuals ".
Grammarians had observed that parsing of some Arabic words has an effect on parsing of other words ; as one word may occur adjacent to another and affects it. So, grammarians
had structured a phonological phenomenon out of this effect and they called it " Proximity". In the light of this phenomenon, they interpreted the apocopative of the if-clause and other grammatical matters e.g. nomen adjectivum, strengthening and syndesis.
There is another phonological factor which grammarians believed to be true and tried to
apply it for the interpretation of many cases of grammar , particularly, those cases which are relevant to vocation , imperative and nunnation (Tanween),and this phonological factor
is the most common factor that is used abundantly.
The purpose of easiness and dislike ness of heaviness were among the purposes that
they used in guiding and supporting some grammatical matters and habits of articulation
which were familiar in the ancient Arabic dialects; that they made the rule of easiness and
dislike ness of heaviness as a justification to break the laws of the criterion structure.
Most cases of the formation of the past tense , and the structure of nouns , prepositions
by using the stress (Fatha) or (Damma)stress or (Kasra)stress, instead of the silent case
were among the matters that were interpreted in the light of this quality.
Through our study of the cause of meeting two quiescents , we conclude that the movement of meeting two quiescents in Arabic language is the stress(Fatha) or (Kasra(
or (Damma), and there are three factors that control the choice of this movement; these
factors are the rhythmical movement, nimbleness and preference of a certain movement
for some letters.
Ancient Arabic linguist were deluded when they studied this phenomenon. Perhaps the source of their delusion was the fact that they considered the long stresses as long quiescent letters and their ignorance of knowing the phonetic syllables as well |
