ABSTRACT :
This experiment was conducted during the growing season of 2010/2011 in private farm at Najaf Governorate, to study the effect of planting date at 1 September, 15 September and 1 October and addition nitrogen fertilizer at three levels 0, 40 and 80 kg N.ha-1 and their interaction on growth parameters (leaves number, plant height, number of secondary branches, total chlorophyll and fresh and dry weight) and leaves content of some active constituents (total alkaloids, total tannins, total phenols and mucilage) and production (leaves and oil production, plant yield, weight of 1000 seeds and production of seed and oil) for Borage Borago officinalis L., The treatments were distributed on factorial experiment conducted at Randomized Completely Block Design in three replicates. Means were compared according to the Duncan Multiple Range Test at the level of 0.05.
Results showed significant effects for date planting at 1 September at all parameters for growth and active substances of leaves and an increased percentage for total alkaloids, total tannins, total phenols and mucilage 8.85, 12.82, 11.61 and 6.34 respectively, And results showed superior significant for Nitrogen fertilizer at level 80 Kg N.ha-1 suggested higher means in all studied parameters above and an increased percentage for total alkaloids, total tannins, total phenols and mucilage 13.47, 14.34, 20.00 and 6.75 respectively, A plants of interaction treatment between 1 September with fertilization at level 80 Kg N.ha-1 were gave high means on all measured parameters and total alkaloids, total tannins, total phenols and mucilage |
