Abstract
Background: Chronic liver disease continues to be one of the leading medical causes of mortality. Cirrhosis and its complications create a substantial healthcare burden and have a negative impact on quality of life in affected patients.
Objectives: The study aims to assess the functional performance for patients with hepatic cirrhosis, and finding out the significant differences between quality patient's functional performance and gender, age, marital status, and level of education.
Materials and Methods: descriptive design study of the functional performance of patients with hepatic cirrhosis starting from November 8th 2011 to the 29th May 2012 was carried out in the Liver and Digestive Disease Hospital in Baghdad and Medical City Teaching Hospital on 100 adult patients, the instrument consisted of two parts Socio- Demographic Information Sheet which was consisted of 5 items which included: age, gender, Marital status, Level of education, and economic activities and Functional Assessment Chronic Therapy-Hepatic which consist of Bodily Competence, Family and Social Competence, Sexual Competence, Emotional Competence, and Functional Competence Domain to assess the daily quality performance for patients with hepatic cirrhosis, the reliability of the questionnaire was determine by calculating Cronbach s' Coefficient alpha.= .841. The researcher used the appropriate statistical methods in the data analysis which included descriptive data analysis and inferential data analysis.
Results: The findings of present study revealed that the majority of the study sample was males 53%, 36.0% of them were at age 43-47 years ago, 62% were married, 33% have a primary education as a level of education, 35 % of them not have economic activities but spend their full-time in house work and the study presented that there were statistical differences between gender of patients and sexual , emotional, and functional competence domains in daily functional performance at P P≤0.05 level.
Conclusions: The study concluded that there was low quality functional performance in domains of Bodily Competence, Sexual Competence, Emotional Competence, and Functional Competence Domains and there were statistical differences between gender of patients and sexual, emotional, and functional competence domains in daily functional performance. |
