	Effect of potassium and phosphorus fertilization on some characteristics of growth and flowering of Mathiola incana L.

Abstract
An experiment was conducted in a private nursery ( Najaf flower nursery ) at AL – Najaf governorate at the season of (2007-2008) to study the effect of potassium and phosphorus fertilization on growth and flowering characteristics of stock plant .Factorial experiment was conducted in Complete Randomized Design, the first factor was three levels of potassium sulphate fertilizer (K2O 46%). The second factor was three levels of super phosphate fertilizer (48-52% P2O5) i.e. at conc. of (0, 1 or 2 g.pot-1) for each fertilizer and by the use of L.S.D. on probability of 0.05 means were compared. Results showed that the addition of potassium sulphate at level of 2 g K2O.pot-1 or 2 g P2O5.pot-1 improved significantly the growth characteristics, i.e. increasing in the number of total leaves, number of main roots, flower diameter, petals contents of Anthocyanin and leaf content of potassium, phosphorus and carbohydrates significantly compared with non-fertilized plant which gave the lowest values. The interaction between potassium and phosphate fertilization indicated that the treatment of (2 g K2O.pot-1 + 2 g P2O5.pot-1) significantly affected all growth characteristics that increasing number of total leaves, number of main roots, flower diameter, petals contents of Anthocyanin and leaf content of potassium, phosphorus and carbohydrates significantly compared with control plant which gave the lowest values.
