Effect of dam age in lambs weights and daily body gain since birth to year of age in Awassi sheep | ||

| Abstract | ||
| The current study was carried out in the field of animal resources department in college of agriculture – University of Kufa ,for analyzing 68 records' belong to 68 awassi ewes with different stages of age (2,3,4,5 and 6years of old ) through the period 2008 to 2011 to determine the effect of dam age on lambs weight at birth , weaning , six months age and year age Also the effect of dam age on daily body gain in weaning age ,six month age and year age. Results show a significant effect of dam age( p<0.01) on lambs weight .Dams in 5 years old were give a high weights of lambs at birth, weaning,6moth age its about 3.88 , 21.84 and 32.44 kg respectively while dams in 6 years old were give a high weight of lambs in year old (36.80 kg). Dams in 2years old were give least weights of lambs from birth to year old its about 2.721 ,18.17 ,24.76 and 28.06 respectively. Daily body gain was affected significantly by dam age at weaning age ,dams in 6 and5 years old were give a high daily body gain its about (0.196 and 0.199 )kg /day respectively. | ||
