Abstract
Stem and leaves segments of four varieties of potato (Provento, Burin, Marfona and Arnova ) were excised and cultured in MS medium supplemented with different concentrations of 2,4-D (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 , 1.5, 2.0) mg / L for callus induction. The cultures were incubated in growth room at 25±2°C and 16 hrs photoperiod with light intensity of 1000 Lux. Data on the weight of fresh callus after 6 weeks . The results showed that 2.0 mg / L proved to be the best concentrations in all used cultivars and gave the highest mean of fresh weight of callus from Steam segments , parts of leaves reached 285.0 mg and 143.6 mg respectively,. Steam segments , parts of leaves are generally a good source in the development of callus, although the Steam segments gave the mean fresh weight of callus better than parts of the leaves, Based on this cultivars , Provento showed the highest mean of fresh weight for callus from pieces of leaves reached 143.6 mg, while no significant effects among them in use pieces of leaves.
