| Abstract | ||
| The thermal degradation of pure powdered cellulose, Iraqi cotton fibers and grained extracted cellulose from some plants in north of Iraq is studied. It is found to be first order reaction with rate of degradation (k), ranging from 1.1 to 3.1 min-1. The activation energy (Ea), the entropy change (S), the enthalpy change (H) and Gibbs free energy (G) are calculated by applying the rate theory of the first order reaction. The variation of these parameters is discussed in the light of the variation of the degree of crystallinity or the ordering of a disordering structure and the nature of the cellulosic material. | ||
