| Abstract | ||
| The surface of zinc oxide (1.2) grams was modified by methyl red dye with different weights using a thermostatic photo- reaction cell ( 250 ) cm3 of aqueous solution containing ( 0.1, 0.2 ,0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8) grams. The photooxidition of 1-hexanol using sensitized ZnO were achieved by the irradiation of suspended solution consist of ( 8.0 ) mol. /lit. of 1- hexanol by visible light from external source through a side window of quartz inside a Pyrex reaction of 25 cm3 at 298 K . Several experiments were carried out in various conditions to attain the best oxidation of 1 -hexanol using the modified ZnO . These experiments include the amount of dyes adsorbed on fixed mass of ZnO, the amount of sensitized ZnO. Also the time of irradiation and the temperature effects. The activation energy for photooxidation of 1-hexanol was 23.7 kJ / mol. The main photooxidation of 1-hexanol was 1-hexanal. Gas – chromatograph using FID , FTIR and IR spectrophotometric technique were used to identify the modified zinc oxide and photooxidation products . According to the results obtained a reaction mechanism of the photooxidation processes of 1-hexanol by sensitized ZnO were suggested. | ||
