| Abstract | ||
| Cystic Hydatid Disease (CHD) distributed globally and epidemic in Iraq and most of Mediterranean countries, leads to health and socio-economic problems, and Iraq now from the most epidemic regions especially its southern and middle regions that most advanced by farmers. The present study carried out on (59) patients attends to Al-Hilla Surgical Teaching Hospital from (2008-2009). The aim is to investigate the relations between epidemiology and prevalence rates of disease in study region and subjects, and the presence of a significant differences according to: Age, Sex, Residency, Occupation, Organs affected, and Multiplicity of cysts. The results show that the rate of infection, according Sex, in Females 61% is higher than Males 39%, and the high rate of infection shows in the Age group (31-40) is 32.2%, while the lower infection shown in ages ≥60 years is 3,4%. According to the Organs affected, the Liver gives the higher rate of infection is 39% followed by Lungs 22% and i.e.10.2% for both Spleen and Abdominal cavity. The study show that Rural regions have higher rate 64.4% than Urban 35.6%.The results also showed that Farmers gives higher rate 30.5% (highest in males), followed by Housewives 27.12% (in females) and lower in Others i.e. 3.4%. Finally, the results shows the suggestions according to the study regions and subjects, then gives recommendations for disease control and prevention of exposing, and decrease the rate of CHD infections in patients and community, and educate them about the disease, its transmission and life cycle, early detection, prevention and control measures and prevent its complications | ||
