| The middle Euphrates of Iraq, despite its interesting geological structure, has not been sufficiently explored in terms of environmental radiological studies. The originality of this work come to being the first study of this kind in this area of Iraq, and because the 40K is responsible for 98% of the gamma emission in the earth. To evaluate the absorbed dose and concentration values of 40K, the gamma spectroscopy technique was used. Seven samples of building materials had been studied, distributed by five sample from Najaf province and two from Babylon province. A comparative study on the activity, absorbed dose and concentration values of 40K obtained in this work are investigated. The gamma spectrometry method with a high energy efficiency NaI(Tl) detector coupled with 4096 cannbera multichannal analyzer was used. The specific activities of 40K were calculated based on the photopeack of 1460keV. These values of specific activities allowed the determination of the concentrations as well as the absorbed dose rates in air, 1m above the ground surface. The values varied from (16.52 nGy.h-1 to 42.17 nGy.h-1) (mean of 23.70 nGy.h-1). | ||
