Saljuqi Mosque Planning Styles and Their Effect on the Planning of Iraqi Mosques | ||

| Abstract | ||
| Abstract It is well known that Islam did not provide conditions on the planning and construction of mosques; all earth is a mosque to Muslims where they can perform their prayers wherever they are. The first mosque established by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUHAH) was but an unroofed yard surrounded by walls of clay and raw bricks. Well after that, elements of mosque planning began to appear following only climatic requirements. So, by the end of the Right-caliphate era, a mosque would consist of a prayer-place, a yard, and side-porticos. This sort of planning remained unchanged in the mosques of Islamic regions for about five centuries. Then, the Saljuqs followed new styles in mosque planning. The first style included the element of a hall in the Iranian mosques; another would include only a closed prayer-house in the mosques of Asia-Minor. These styles would have no big effects on the planning of Iraqi mosques then. | ||
