Abstract
ABSTRACT: Babylon province suffers from widening desertificationphenomenon which reachedmanifestations of the degree of severity influence the economic , social and healthy aspects . To reduce its impact it must diagnosis and analysis the causes and identify the aftectedareas with it.The results showed that desertification correlated with two factors: First:Thenatural factor, which includes. 1- The drought as aresult of province location within semi airid. 2- Water scarcity of Euphrates river, interrupted 66.77% of arable land . This percentage increases in summer to arrive 85.29% . 3- Creeping sand and active dunes threaten about 3000 Dounm. In the areas of,Gorf al saker, Al-hasswa Al shamalia Al-hasswa Al-jenobia and Al-Maronia . Also 1500DounmWas occupied by inactive sand dunes in area of nile and midhatia. Second:The human, factorwhich includes. 1- The high population growth.The province population reached 1,796,906 with rate growth 3.2%,which generate exploitative pressure upon the bio-available resources interms of population creeping-statement and forest destructions because energy scarcity.The destruction reached about 67.77%.2 - Widespread problem of salinity,the land areas affected bysalinity 46.14% found in, Talea,Qasim,Midhatia,Shomali,Nile and Kefel. 3-Over grazing with lage numbers of alumals on area 59173Dounm . as pastures withpoar natural vegetation. Inaddition to interrupted land. This behaveir increased the active of wind erosion and these areas became the foci of the local dust.
