Abstract :
A study on the effect of Mg and P sprays on growth and flowering of Zinnia elegans plants was carried out . Four concentrations of Mg EDTA (0 , 1 , 2 , 4) g/l and four levels of P2O5 (0 , 1.5 , 2.5 , 5.0) g/l were sprayed on plants . Spraeying plants was applied two times . The first one was done a month after plannting , the second one was after 21 days from the first spray .
All Mg treatments were significantly increased most of vegetative parameters studied . The concentration 1.0 g/l was superior on increasing plant height (86.14 cm) ; no.of leaves/plant (59.92) and leaves chlorophyll content (38.76 SPAD) . While 4.0 g/l was more effective on no.of branches / plant (9.58) ; leaf area (38.83 cm2) . However , 2g/l level was the best on increasing fresh and dry weight of vegetative growth (129.74 and 79.23 g) respectively . The concentration 4g/l of Mg enhanced most of the flowering parameters , no.of flower / plant recorded (26.2) ; flower diameter 4.46 cm.; flowering stem leragth 49.25 cm.; flowering stem diameter 5.0 mm.; flower fresh weight was 7.71 g. and flower dry weight 0.30 g. Moreover , treated plants were bloomed earlier , after 194 days from planting .
Phosphorus was more effective on the higher conceantration treatment . The 5.0 g. increased plant height (0.13 cm) ; no.of branches / plant (16.11) ; no.of leaves/ plant (8.30) ; leave area (38.45 cm2) ; vaselife (7.85 days) ; no.of flowering / plant (19.68) ; flowering diameter (11.0 cm) ; flowering stem length (55.62 cm.) and flower stem thickness (4.75 mm.) In addition , treated plants were bloomed earlier ; they took 166 days only from planting date .
The interaction between the dactors were significanted for most veqetative and flowering characters tiested . |
