| Abstract | ||
| The current study aims to identify difficulties that students face in learning linguistic subjects at English department ,College of Education, University of Kirkuk in terms of their mother tongue (Arabic ,Turkmen, and Kurdish languages). The researchers chose the sample of the study randomly. It consists of 298 students, male and female. The constructed instrument, exposing items to experts specialized in linguistics and educational sciences to achieve its validity and reliability. The researchers used the statistical method such as, pearson correlation, , and use percentages. The results show the following: First-The percentages show that: 1. There are some difficulties with vocabulary, writing essay, using different structures of sentences. 2. There are some difficulties with base &affixes (i. e Morphology). 3. There are some difficulties with transcription and diphthong vowels.(i.e phonology) Second -The values show that: 1. There are statistically significant differences between students’ mother tongues: Arabic, Turkmen languages regarding comprehension subject at first stage. 2. There are statistically significant differences between students whose mother tongue Kurdish and Turkmen languages in comprehension subject at first stage. 3. There are no statistically significant differences between other linguistic subjects and students’ mother tongues at first & 2nd stages. At the end of the study, the researchers state recommendations and many suggestions | ||
