Abstract
The main objective of the research is to clarify how to produce maps quantity in the GIS (Geographic Information System) by addressing the definition map quantitative what kinds of symbols used by the traditional methods and explain in some detail how the representation of those symbols on the maps and what maps and quantitative steps produced in geographic information systems, taking the distribution maps of the population in the province of Basra by administrative units, according to estimates of the population for the year 2007 an applied a model for him. Were used one of the main programs of GIS sophisticated which is a program Arc GIS 9.3 and two applications Arc map and Arc catalog in all phases of research ranging from operations Returns geographical (Georeferencing) for base map to search through operations drawing multiple and create a digital database Attribute Table of the population in the province and quantitative coding Symbology for maps and other end of the final output operations Layout View maps, and was finally produce 15 quantitative map of the distribution of the population in the province, including the administrative map of land already inhabited in the province.
