Abstract
The paper tackles the phonetic efforts undertaken by AL-Wasiti (740Hijra). AL Wasiti was one of the scientists who investigated the appropriate methods of readings and reciting. The paper is divided into two sections preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion and bibliography. The introduction is dedicated to the importance of phonemes of human being, illustrating through a preface the birth and development of phonemic studies undertaken by the ancient Arabs up till ALwasiti in the 8th century after Hijra. Section one tackles the articulation of phonemes in ALwasiti book after defining them linguistically and terminologically .this section illustrates the phonetic theories as detected in his book through which investigated to which extent he agreed or disagreed with his forerunner scientists in reciting, asserting the similarities he shared with modern phonetic studies. Section two tackles the phonetic characteristics as appeared in his book. It highlights his agreement with his forerunner scientists in readings, not overlooking the Unique and individual opinions he had about some of the illustrated characteristics as referred to in the paper. The paper ends with a brief conclusion followed by a bibliography
