| Abstract | ||
| The objective of this study was to identify the knowledge levels of buffalo owners in the field of pre-calving (two months) and pre-mating (one month) nutrition in Al-Rifaee district, Thi-Qar province. Identification the knowledge level of buffalo owners in the fields of general, pre-mating and pre-calving nutrition, as well as the relationship between knowledge level and independent factors (age, educational level, experience years and herd population) were also studied. After informed researcher on the scientific literature in the field of buffalo nutrition and enlightenment the opinions of agricultural extension’s experts and specialists, the knowledge scale of 24 items was built. One degree was identified for each item, and therefore, the scale degrees ranged from 0 to 24. The study population involved all buffalo owners in Al-Rifaee district (200 owners). A random sample of 80 owners was collected. Results indicated that the owner’s knowledge level was average. Positive significant relationships were found among the knowledge level, age, educational level, experience years and herd population. It was recommended that the agricultural extension should take active role in agricultural rural areas which was so limited. Increasing the support of Minister of Agriculture for owners through offering the rations and vaccines, receiving the yielded milk as well as compensate the loss of their herds due to drought were also recommended. | ||
