Abstract
The present study includes estimation of cement dust effect on the health of a group of Kufa Cement Factory workers (n=60). Workers group are distributed according to the department into Packing Department (n=30), Mills Department (n=20) and Conveyors Department (n=10). The study aimed to determining the biochemical parameters sodium Na+, potassium K+, in addition to lipid profile levels (triglyceride TG, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein HDL, low density lipoprotein LDL and very low density lipoprotein VLDL) in serum of the workers group in contrast to control group who are further away from any industrial effect (n=30). Furthermore, examine the department of the Cement Factory that is most likely more affected by cement dust constituents through the comparison of studied parameters between the different departments. The study also evaluated the effect of exposure time on the parameters level, workers group were divided into 1-6 years, 7-12 years and ≥ 13years work life. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in sodium level (p<0.05) for workers group when compared with the control group, while other parameters did not show a significant difference. The comparison between departments indicated that there was a significant increase in the mean level of Na and K in packing department group than those of mills and conveyors. The exposure time results showed that there was no observed difference in the means of the parameters for the compared groups.
