The great and remarkable developments in means of communication nowadays as well as their control of people’s minds have made discourse through such means attractive, destructive, powerful and mind-controlling. Discourse has often been associated with political authority due to the tremendous impact of words which has become as powerful and effective as weapons. Therefore, knowledge of these means of communication, their kinds, their technology, how they work, and how they generate discourse contributes greatly to uncovering invisible, and perhaps incomprehensible, aspects of our behavior, our orientations, our attitudes and our reactions towards what happens to us and what happens around us. In order to establish effective communication which involves kindness, nobility and knowledge, activates the mind and thought and inspires feelings, we attempt to study Communication facilitators and impediments on the part of both the sender and recipient in the light of Jakobson’s theory.
The study attempts to answer some questions, or opens a new horizon to contemplate them. Probably, the most important of such questions are: Can any communicative process between two or more parties be established without any change or distortion of the intention of the message being transmitted from the sender to the recipient? How can we say something while at the same time intend to mean another? Is the message what the sender intends to convey? Or is it what the recipient believes to be said? Or both of them? |
