| Abstract | ||
| This research deals with Betrayal (1978) by Harold Pinter (1930-2008) in terms of such elements as dialogue, time, and context, because it is in these elements that some of Pinter’s characteristic stylistic features manifest themselves most powerfully. Pinter’s dramatic handling of these elements proves him as an original modernist and an avant-grade, self-conscious innovator. The paper will analyze utterances with the said structural features in view. The important issue in the play is the different roles of time, context, and language which are considered the basic constituents of modern drama. This paper intends also to trace how Pinter has made use of time, dialogue, and context, to produce the above-mentioned modern play. Key words: language, dialogue, time, context, flashbacks | ||
