Abstract
Testosterone is one of the anabolic steroids which are the man-made derivatives of the male sex hormone. Physiologically, elevations in testosterone concentrations stimulate protein synthesis resulting in improvements in muscle size, body mass and strength. Testosterone and its synthetic derivatives are responsible for the development and maturation of male secondary sexual characteristics. High density lipoprotein HDL-cholesterol represents the removing of cholesterol from body and it is considered as health indicator. Twenty five Iraqi male patients with hypertension and may underpin features of advanced disease, collected from Ibn Al-Nafes teaching hospital. These patients with age range from 50-55 years were collected in a period of two months under medical supervision. The obtained results showed significant elevation of cholesterol and significant decrease of both the HDL-cholesterol and testosterone in serum of sever hypertensive patients with concentrations 7.34± 0.83 mmol/L and 12.82±0.14 nmol/L, respectively. Decrease of testosterone hormone in hypertensive patients significantly. These decreases of the testosterone level were associated with elevation of cholesterol and decrease in HDL-cholesterol. From the collected results we recommended that testosterone level and HDL-cholesterol in sever hypertensive patients must be evaluated. The decrease of testosterone level could be corrected by testosterone replacements therapy.
