The effect of green tea extract in some liver functions, glutathione peroxidase and magnesium level in Mus Musculus | ||

| Abstract | ||
| The current study aimed an investigating the potential effect of the alcoholic extract of green tea Camellia sinensis in some physiological aspects in experimental mice Mus musculus, obtained from the animal house of the Faculty of Science/ University of Kirkuk in. The experiment used 50 male mice with an average age of 8-12 Week and at a weight of 25-20 gm. The animals were divided into five groups of 10 animals per group. The first group considered the control group, the distilled water was harvested, the second group had given 100 mg of the extract/g from body weight as well as the third group 250 mg of the extract. While the fourth group 500 mg of the extract have been dosed/g from body weight and finally the fifth group had 1000 mg dosage of the extract/ g from body weight, animals killed after the end of the prescribed period 16 days, the samples are taken to make required and necessary tests. The level of serum enzymes ALT, AST, serum glutathione peroxidase (GPX) and serum magnesium (Mg) were measured. The results showed a significant decrease in the level of P <0.05 in enzymes ALT, AST with increased concentration of the extract and elevated level of antioxidant enzyme GPX and Mg level significantly coincided with the high concentration of the extract. We conclude that green tea does not play any toxicity role on the liver and is a strong antioxidant because of its effect to increase the level of GPX enzyme and elevated the concentration of magnesium, which has the role of maintaining the level of antioxidants in the body | ||
