Abstract
Bridges are prominent landmarks within the urban landscape. With advancements in bridge design technology, bridges have acquired distinctive expressive values in addition to their functional importance. A wide variety of artificial lighting techniques (Methods are used to produce and manipulate light from non–natural sources) have emerged for bridge illumination. Given the diversity of bridge designs, their application requires an in-depth study. Due to the scarcity of research studies addressing the impact of artificial lighting techniques on enhancing the expressive structural aspects of bridges. This research aims to provide a database on the types and applications of effective artificial lighting techniques in realizing the expressive structural aspects of bridges. This database will assist designers in finding innovative solutions to enhance these expressive features. The impact of artificial lighting techniques on adding new expressive dimensions to bridges has not been studied within the local context, and this is where the originality of the current research lies. The research assumes that artificial lighting techniques have a significant impact on the expressive structural aspects of bridges by enhancing the perception of the structure and adding new expressive dimensions. The study’s most significant finding is that the bridge’s structural components and elements are the primary drivers for effective and impactful artificial lighting design.
