| This study was carried out during the period from February 2017 to March 2017, in order to determine the effect of adding different levels of reduced glutathione (antioxidant) to diluted the semen of the Awassi rams and their effect on semen traits after cooling at 5C° for five days, Livestock and laboratories affiliated to the Department of Animal Production/ College of Agriculture/ University of Baghdad in Jadiriyah. In this study, 4 Awassi Rams were used (4-2 years). The semen were collected by the artificial vagina by one ejaculate/ ram/ week, mixed the semen of the rams (Pooled semen) to remove the individual variations between the rams and tests were conducted to evaluate the fresh semen before the dilution in terms of color, viscosity, pH, mass motility, individual motility, sperm concentration and the percentage of viable and abnormal sperms. The sample was divided equally on the experimental parameters using Tris diluent at 1: 10 dilution, which consisted of three groups added to it: T1: control group (Tris diluted). T2: Tris dilute + glutathione (30 mg/ 100 ml(. T3: Tris dilute + glutathione (60 mg/ 100 ml(. The results showed that the addition of reduced glutathione T3 resulted in a high significant (p<0.01) in the characteristics of the individual movement ratio and the rate of the abnormal sperms at the conservation time of 96 hours, reaching (57.00±7.77, 25.75 ± 0.67)% respectively, Compared with control treatment (15.00± 2.88, 41.25± 0.75)% respectively. As for the impact of the duration of conservation on the individual motility, was the effect of the time of conservation at time (0 hour) is not significant (P <0.05), and high significant (P <0.01) at time (24, 48, 72, 96) hours. as about the effects on the abnormal sperm, it was high significant (P <0.01) on all treatments in all times. It was concluded from this study that addition of glutathione in a concentration of 60 mg/ 100ml was beneficial on semen traits of Awassi ram |
